As a bilingual Korean-English psychologist, I specialize in working with adults navigating perfectionism and/or anxiety rooted in attachment and emotional wounds, often shaped by growing up in immigrant families or with Asian parents. I’ve worked at several college counseling centers (e.g., GWU, UIUC, UCI, CSULB), giving me a deep understanding of the challenges commonly faced by both undergraduate and graduate students. I see clients residing in California and Illinois via secure Zoom meetings. Please feel free to reach out!

About My Practice I'm Dr. Dorcas A. Jansen, a licensed psychologist with a PhD and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) designation. My practice is dedicated to supporting individuals navigating the complexities of both athletic performance and mental health challenges. I offer telehealth sessions during evenings and weekends, providing flexibility to accommodate busy student schedules. Who I Work Best With I specialize in working with: Student-Athletes: Individuals striving to enhance their performance, manage the pressures of competition, and maintain balance between academics and athletics. As a former Division I Track and Field athlete, I understand firsthand the unique challenges faced by student-athletes. Students Facing Mental Health Challenges: Those dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or stress management issues. I provide a safe and confidential environment to explore these experiences, build self-awareness, and cultivate self-compassion. Individuals Exploring Racial Identity: Students seeking to understand and navigate their racial identity within various contexts. My commitment to social justice and multiculturalism is central to my work, ensuring culturally sensitive support. My Approach I employ an integrative therapeutic approach, combining: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): To develop coping skills and improve emotional regulation. Interpersonal Process Therapy: To foster authentic connections and emphasize the importance of community and support. Mindfulness Strategies: To enhance self-awareness and present-moment focus. My goal is to tailor these modalities to meet each client's unique needs, promoting overall mental wellness. Getting Started I offer a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your goals and how we might work together. Sessions are priced at $200, and I accept various insurance plans, including Aetna, Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare, among others. My practice was an oddity before COVID. Now it just makes sense. I meet most of my clients outdoors, on the hiking trails of the Berkeley and Oakland Redwoods. I of course also work with people online, too, but prefer to at least meet once or twice a month in-person: webcams are quite convenient, but still a 2D version of ourselves; it's definitely not ideal for the sort of conversational depth & breadth that we may embark on together. Put more plainly: Talking about the most stressful, anxiety producing, depressing, &/or shame-inducing stuff is best done in person, not online. Take a look at my website to get more of a feel for whether my practice may be a fit for you, and of course, don't hesitate to send an email or txt msg if you have questions: 415.823.1760

If you’re feeling stuck after trying to do things on your own, then therapy could help you move forward. Together, you’ll learn to break old patterns, find joy in your life, and build a better path forward. Along the way, you’ll learn to navigate difficult situations, gain confidence, and express yourself authentically. Let's work together to overcome the issues causing indecisiveness, performance issues, and low self-esteem. Together, we'll create a way for you to meet your potential, break old patterns, and start on a better path forward. My approach is eclectic to fit your needs, help build your strengths, and create opportunities for growth. We'll create sustainable goals that align with your values and find strategies to overcome obstacles. My work draws from many years of helping adults, families, children, and couples in clinics, schools, and community settings. Therapy can be hard, so I want to make it comfortable for you. I'm a gamer and use video games in sessions to help you feel more at ease, build skills, and process your difficulties. Games, art, play, and many creative activities have been used in therapy to help people process their difficulties, express themselves, and make therapy personal.

I specialize in working with female students who are struggling with anxiety or stress. Maybe you are noticing burnout and feeling a lack of interest in classes, feeling stressed with upcoming exams, feeling anxious making new friends, or feeling completely overwhelmed by the sorority system at school. College or graduate school is meant to be an experience of self-discovery, but you may find yourself isolating, worrying, anxious, or overwhelmed. The pressure to excel academically, anxiety of moving away from home, the demands of coursework and deadlines, and the challenges of making new friends can all contribute to anxiety and stress and just feeling down. If you are looking to feel in control of your life again and get back to enjoying life, you have come to the right place! As someone who experiences anxiety myself and struggled to get into the groove of college, I I get it! I would love to support you in coping with any anxiety or stress you are currently experiencing to help you feel relief and get back that enjoyment of life! Please reach out today.
