Sometimes we feel stuck. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed. Sometimes we feel bad and we don't know why. My goal is to help you trailblaze through the forest of life with an improved sense of self and sense of direction. To facilitate this process I use a variety of self-assessment tools and provide self-care education. Sessions will involve talk-therapy and may include use of worksheets, journaling, charting, and art-based interventions. I also incorporate the healing power of humor, when appropriate. I will partner with you to help you feel comfortable in your own skin and confident in each step you take towards growth.
I believe counseling is about gaining a complete understanding of oneself to connect the dots of why we think, behave, and feel the way we do. Therapy can help one to see the connection and learn skills to change patterns of self-destructive behavior into life fulfilling achievements. Therapy is a safe space to explore the person you are and look at the negative experiences in your life to start the healing process. In therapy we can work together to understand yourself more fully and work towards the goals you determine. Life is not easy and seeking helping can be the first step to making lasting change towards the future you envision. I desire to help you gain the insight into you so that your future is brighter, and you are stronger in knowing who you are. Yes, we all think we have flaws but sometimes what we think are flaws are strengths hidden by biases and once we understand them a whole new perspective is unveiled. The first step is the hardest but after that I will be there for you each step of the process.

Young adulthood is tough, and I love helping my clients learn how to balance the stress of college with the rest of their life. I have worked with many young adults who struggle with perfectionism or burnout. For specific treatment concerns, I specialize in working with young adults struggling with anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, ADHD/AuDHD, BFRBs (skin picking/hair pulling), and insomnia/sleep optimization. I can help if you're curious if you have a specific diagnosis and want to learn more, or if you're looking to understand yourself better and feel like you have the tools you need to handle whatever life throws your way. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and experienced in working with these clients. My office is about 5 min from the KSU campus in Kennesaw, and I see clients virtually as well.
My name is Ashleigh Tricksey. I have been working in the counseling field for 5 years now. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my theoretical approach while still integrating other techniques that best fit the needs of the client. If you are experiencing anxiety, adjustment issues, depression, grief/loss, low self-esteem, and/or trauma then I am here to help you reach your goals and maintain healthy mental health.
My first career was in teaching and counseling is my second career. I did my internship at Ridgeview Institute on the adolescent unit. I worked there for 5 years as the DBT coordinator, utilizing both my teaching and counseling skills. While there, I trained graduate students in DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy.) I also became a registered play therapist during that time. I started a private practice, My Secret Garden counseling service, in 2015. I work with all ages, mainly helping people build a life worth living by learning to manage their emotions instead of having their emotions manage them. I believe in the inherent worth of every person, and that healing comes from relationship. I am a Christian, but have seen people of various beliefs. I am well versed in DBT, but also incorporate interactive play, talk therapy, and expressive art techniques.
The students I work best with are often feeling overwhelmed by the demands of college and life. They may be struggling with anxiety, stress, burnout, self-doubt, relationship challenges, family pressures, academic concerns, or major life transitions. Many are used to being the "strong one" for everyone else and find themselves feeling emotionally exhausted, disconnected, or unsure of how to prioritize their own needs. I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where students can better understand their emotions, build healthy coping skills, improve self-confidence, set boundaries, and navigate challenges with greater clarity. Whether they are adjusting to college life, managing stress, exploring their identity, or working through personal struggles, I help students develop practical tools and insight so they can feel more balanced, confident, and connected to what matters most to them.

As a psychotherapist, I create a safe space whereby building a relationship, unraveling issues, demystifying oneself, voicing hopes and dreams, and developing wisdom and insight, one can emerge from (and exist in) the forest that is life with a deeper understanding of how to navigate one's mind and the world around us. It is my philosophy that great psychotherapy not only addresses the issues on the table, but also guides one towards greater overall life fulfillment. I have extensive experience is CBT, ACT, psychodynamic and mindfulness approaches working with a variety of populations, mental barriers and social challenges. By developing together the skills of psychological flexibility, I aim to equip you with the skills to successfully endure future hardships on your own in an imperfect world where negative experiences and events are outside of our control. In turn, allowing you to live a life that is gratifying, authentic, rich, purposeful and well-adapted. Aside from my academic training, my psychotherapy approach is also informed by my own queer identity, my multicultural immigrant background, existential worldview, social justice, and the realities of people of working class and low socio-economic experiences. I specialize in supporting high-achieving professionals—especially those in academia or the helping profession (doctors, nurses, therapists, pastors)—who grapple with perfectionism, difficulty setting boundaries, codependency, and the challenge of prioritizing their own needs amidst the many demands of their personal and professional lives. As an immigrant, I bring a rich, cross-cultural perspective to therapy and a deep appreciation for how culture shapes identity, relationships, and mental health. Many of my clients are navigating complex intersections of cultural expectations, academic roles, and personal values. In addition to my clinical practice, I am a professor and active researcher. My academic work focuses on interpersonal trauma and its impact on relationships and meaning-making. This dual identity as both clinician and scholar informs my approach: deeply reflective, integrative, and grounded in both science and lived experience. I work exclusively via Telehealth with adult clients residing in GA, MI, and TX. I believe that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship—one that offers both safety and challenges patterns by providing direct and honest feedback. If you're ready to invest in yourself and your well-being, I invite you to reach out.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who brings a warm approach to direct, empowering, and holistic therapy to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks. My therapy style is collaborative, humorous, and affirming as I believe you are the expert in your own life but I can be a supportive tool to help you in being who you want to be! Healing isn't one-size-fits-all, and therapy shouldn't be either. My work is based in trauma-informed care that honors where you've been, what you have experienced, and meets you exactly where you are. I believe your body holds wisdom that talk therapy alone can't always reach, which is why we integrate somatic approaches that help you reconnect with yourself on a deeper level.
