I believe therapy can help people overcome obstacles, achieve their full potential, and work towards meaningful change. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I work closely with my clients to develop customized treatment plans that meet their unique needs. I have experience working with clients with a wide range of presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, substance use, relationship issues, and life transitions. My approach to therapy is rooted in compassion, empathy, and respect for each individual's experiences and perspectives. I draw on a range of evidence-based techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy, to help clients achieve their goals. My goal as a therapist is to empower my clients to live their best lives. I'm committed to helping each person I work with develop the skills and tools they need to overcome challenges, build resilience, and find joy and fulfillment in their lives.
The years surrounding college --young adulthood--is a time filled with amazing exploration as well as stress, sadness, and a lot of unknowns. We really begin to learn not just about who we have been to others, but about who we can become. Working with a therapist can offer a way to explore some of these feelings and experiences with someone who has first hand understanding of being a youg adult (we all were at one time!), who wants to get to know who you are becoming and help you find a way to get there with a sense of power and voice. Life can be awesome but it can also be scary and hard sometimes and no-one has to do this alone!
Accepting new clients! At the center of my work is the belief that healing happens through connection—therapy begins with a space that feels safe, compassionate, and authentically supportive. I work with adults and young adults who are navigating life changes, anxiety, depression, identity questions, relationship challenges, and the ongoing work of self-discovery. I am affirming of LGBTQ+ identities, supportive of neurodiverse experiences, and committed to practicing in ways that are inclusive, culturally attuned, and trauma-informed. My style is person-centered and strengths-focused, rooted in humanistic values. I support clients in making sense of their experiences, discovering meaning, and reconnecting with what matters most to them. In addition to my general practice, I also support caregivers, siblings, and parents of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, offering space for emotional processing and deeper understanding. I see therapy as a collaborative journey, an opportunity to explore meaning, reclaim personal narratives, and cultivate resilience. Each person brings their own wisdom, and I’m honored to walk alongside you as you move toward greater clarity. Please reach out with any questions you may have about the therapeutic process or working with me!

I am currently accepting new clients and offer both weekly therapy sessions and EMDR intensives, allowing you to choose the pace and structure that best fits your needs. I strive to create a warm, accepting, and non-judgmental space where clients feel safe to process painful emotions and life experiences. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to each individual, helping you move toward healing with clarity and support. I specialize in trauma treatment and offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), one of the most well-researched and effective therapies for trauma and PTSD. In addition to traditional talk therapy and weekly EMDR sessions, I also provide EMDR intensives and Ketamine-Assisted EMDR for clients seeking deeper, more accelerated healing. While I enjoy working with individuals across the lifespan, I have a particular passion for supporting adolescents and young adults as they navigate the complexities of today. I earned my Master of Social Work with a specialization in behavioral health from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Wake Forest University. I am licensed to practice in Massachusetts and Maryland.
I invite couples, adolescents and adults to identify strengths, acknowledge challenges and develop strategies to solve a range of problems. We can explore ways to save and enhance your relationship. In the first session, I teach tools that you can use immediately to enhance your partnership, open the lines of communication and reconnect as a couple. If you are an overwhelmed parent, I can help you reach out to your teen by employing techniques that can be used in the moment. My professional experience encompasses coping with anxiety, managing chronic illness, grieving losses and achieving balance for an enriched life. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, reality-based and solution- focused. I also provide psychodynamic insight-oriented therapy if a more in depth exploration of issues is requested. My experience and training include relationship issues, crises related to life transitions, developmental stages, adolescent concerns, couples issues, PTSD, chronic illness, and loss. I am in a small group practice at Solutions for Living. We work within a relationship based model that emphasizes strengths, supports self care planning, encourages mindfulness and incorporates stress reduction. We also remain well informed with regard to evidence based techniques, proven theories and research.

We are a concierge practice providing evidence-based behavioral approaches for mental health challenges in students, young professionals, and high performance clientele. Dr. Nissen has served as Chief of Student Mental Health and trained in psychiatry at Harvard Medical school. College is a time of transition where we learn not only about academics, but about who we are and how to navigate the myriad challenges of life. It is both exciting and stressful, fun and scary. And when we struggle with added anxiety, depression, traumas, relationship difficulties, and more it can make the whole experience feel overwhelming. I specialize in helping college students to cope with these challenges so they can thrive in school, work, and everyday life. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where I majored in Psychology and developed my interest in helping others. I went on to receive a Masters of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University in Boston and then worked there for 6 years before starting my practice. I blend elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy into my practice. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and have seen dramatic results from its use, helping clients to overcome longstanding problems much more rapidly than with other therapeutic techniques. My practice is now fully telehealth, giving clients maximum flexibility for scheduling and convenience.
