Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Duxbury, MA

I’m Alexandra Casamassima (a mouthful, I know), a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. More specifically, I help people create positive change in their lives when they are struggling. I have expertise in working with women. This includes college students or millennials going through a “quarter life crisis,” the pregnancy and postpartum period, and beyond. I support women in exploring their history and revealing patterns that may be impacting their emotions or relationships, or just help tackle a difficult season of life. I am not your typical therapist, and we will not be interpreting dreams from a couch. Therapy should not be an awkward and stale experience. Expect therapy with me to be a compassionate and safe space to process what you’re going through. However, I am not a sit and nod therapist. I will be real. I will challenge you in the areas I think we need to re-evaluate. I will use humor. I might curse here and there. While I have extensive education and training that has prepared me for this role, my experience has mostly taught me that YOU are the expert of your life. You have all the strengths, capabilities, and life experiences you need to get you where you want to go. My skills involve utilizing those strengths, giving you the tools to cope with what you’re struggling with, and elicit the change you want to see. I do not have a magic wand (otherwise my rates would be much higher), but if you put in the work during the therapy process, transformation is possible. If you’re reading this, chances are you are suffering in some way. Maybe you’re experiencing anxiety, maybe you’re overwhelmed with being a mom, or maybe you know you’re just not getting the most out of life. Please reach out if you’d like to take the first step to make positive change.

I believe therapy is best treated with positive support and with a strong professional relationship. Therapy should consist of empathy and sensitivity for your needs and goals. I approach all of my clients in a strength based supportive modality. You will find me to be a passionate, motivated and educated therapist that will help to reach your goals. I am available days and nights for your convenience. I understand starting therapy can be difficult and lengthy. I work with all ages in a variety of services, however specialize in children/adolescents, anxiety disorders and trauma. I have a separate license as a school adjustment counselor which brings experience working in the school system. Hi, I'm Caily and I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with a passion for helping young adults feel empowered, understood, and supported. I earned my Master's degree from Bridgewater State University (2020) after completing my undergraduate degree at Emmanuel College (2017). I know therapy can feel intimidating at first, so I work hard to create a space where you can feel safe to show up exactly as you are. We’ll collaborate to define what you want to get out of therapy, and then break those goals into small, meaningful, and achievable steps. If you are interested in setting up an initial consult, please contact me via email or find me on Headway!

It has always been my take on life that we must find joy and satisfaction in what we do and who we are. I have been working as a mental health professional since 2006 and I find joy in the work that I do each and every day. I prioritize creating a healthy balance between the work that I love, my self-care, and time with my family. I value the opportunity I have to help people find their way and find balance in their lives, whether this is through closure with the past or building new skills to cope with current life challenges. I knew when I was a teenager that this is the work that I wanted to do. I have always felt drawn towards helping people. I received my undergraduate degree from Flagler College in Florida and earned my Graduate degree from Assumption College here in MA. Right out of school, I worked for South Bay Mental Health doing in-home therapy. Once I became licensed I moved into an office setting and I worked at Arbour Counseling for about 8 years. After which I started graduating into private practice. A few colleagues and I came together to create Grove Counseling Services in Worcester, MA. Until COVID-19 presented, we were thriving. I now work out of Millbury, MA and continue to do what I love.

I also help clients recovery from narcissistic/toxic abuse. College can be exciting, but it can also feel stressful, lonely, or uncertain at times. You might be figuring out who you are, how to manage everything on your plate, or how to feel more like yourself again. I’m here to help you through those moments. I work with students who are navigating anxiety, depression, identity and relationship questions, sleep or focus challenges, and the ups and downs of college life. My goal is to create a warm and supportive space where you can slow down, feel understood, and find your footing one step at a time.

I work collaboratively with students who face a variety of challenges, including life transitions, relationship issues, and navigating queer identities. College and graduate school typically occur at pivotal developmental points for people in terms of figuring out who they are, what they want, and separating/individuating from parental figures. Together, we will work to understand your inner life, what works and what doesn't in terms of your thinking, behavior and ways of relating to others. Often, patterns develop that help us stay safe and secure when we're young, but would benefit from re-examination and modification to live a more fulfilling adult life. I have a sub-specialty working with people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), a highly distressing fixation on a perceived appearance defect that can impact daily functioning and quality of life. I help you understand where the appearance fixation originated, including negative self appraisals and rituals/compulsions that accompany BDD. Learning to face feared and avoided situations is a gradual process that takes place over time, freeing you from the hold of BDD and leading to improved functioning and a more satisfying life.

I help people to heal from past trauma and hurtful experiences so that they can decrease anxiety, increase feelings of self-worth and develop authentic relationships. Together we will address the underlying patterns and fears that are keeping you in survival-mode so that you develop the confidence and courage to move toward the life you want to live. You may be struggling with: Difficulty in relationships or creating a healthy relationship. Constantly people-pleasing. Shame and low self-esteem. Feeling like you have to hide part of yourself. Anxiety holding you back. A challenging relationship with your body. Feeling held back in this way is deeply painful. My job is not to fix you (because you're not broken), but to work with you to address the underlying patterns and fear. During our sessions, we may explore how unhealthy patterns and limiting self-beliefs play a role in where you are struggling. I work without judgment of your truth is, where you currently are, or where it is you’d like to go. I integrate my background in energy psychology and training as a meditation teacher into my work. I blend trauma-informed, attachment, and somatic interventions into my work with clients.
