Licensed Professional Counselor
Miami Beach, FL

I'm Carly Stanton, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) offering virtual therapy for adults in Florida and Pennsylvania who've spent too long trying to fit into spaces that were never built for them. I work with outsiders, misfits, and people rebuilding — LGBTQ+ folks navigating identity and belonging, Jewish adults sorting through what their heritage actually means to them, highly sensitive people who are done apologizing for how they're wired, and anyone who's spent years being everything for everyone else and lost themselves in the process. My approach is relational, insight-oriented, and grounded in ACT and attachment-based work. I'm not here to hand you coping tips. I'm here to help you figure out who you actually are underneath all the performing. Virtual only. Free 15-minute consultation.

I have been practicing within the fields of counseling, education and human services since obtaining my first Master’s degree from Central Connecticut State University in 2002. Obtaining a second Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at La Salle University, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, as well as a, Internationally Certified Advanced Drug and Alcohol Counselor. I am honored that my path has brought me to Bucks Support Services in both Newtown and Buckingham, PA, where we treat individuals, couples and families impacted by depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, LGBTQI+ topics, trauma processing/PTSD, relational challenges, behavioral disorders and support system disconnection. Drawing from a variety of treatment styles and approaches, I focus on connection and the emotional experience, authenticity, empathic understanding and compassion. I believe that a strong therapeutic rapport is the heart of meaningful growth in therapy. When we feel truly seen, heard, and understood, we are better able to explore our experiences, reflect on our patterns, and take steps toward change. My goal is to create a space where clients feel safe, respected, and comfortable to be themselves, no matter what challenges they may be facing. My approach to therapy is person-centered, which means I value each client’s unique perspective and believe that you are the expert of your own life. I work alongside my clients, offering support, guidance, and encouragement as we navigate the journey together. I strive to meet people where they are, honoring their pace while helping them uncover new insights and tools for growth. I hold a Master’s degree in Art Therapy with a Specialization in Counseling and am a Registered Art Therapist. Creativity can be a powerful way to explore feelings and experiences that are difficult to put into words. In sessions, I often incorporate art and the creative process to help clients process emotions, gain clarity, and express themselves in new ways. Whether through drawing, painting, collage, or other forms of artmaking, this approach allows for deeper self-understanding and healing beyond traditional talk therapy. I also bring personal experience to my work, having navigated the loss of my father at a young age. Experiencing grief firsthand has given me a deep understanding of the complexities of loss. This experience informs my approach to grief therapy, allowing me to connect with clients in a compassionate and authentic way. In addition to my art therapy work, I am currently pursuing my Animal-Assisted Therapy Certificate. I am excited to soon integrate my therapy dog-in-training, Bear, into sessions as a comforting and supportive presence. Animals can offer a unique kind of connection and grounding that supports emotional regulation and overall well-being. I have experience working with children, teens, and adults in a variety of settings, including partial hospitalization, inpatient, residential treatment, and outpatient therapy. My specialties include supporting individuals through anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and significant life transitions. I am especially passionate about working with clients during times of change—whether it’s starting a new school, transitioning to college, beginning a new career, or navigating changes in relationships or identity. No matter your reason for seeking therapy, my hope is to create an environment where you feel safe to explore your inner world, discover your strengths, and find meaningful ways to move forward.

"If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If not now, when?" -Hillel Are you struggling with anxiety or depression related to school, parenting or postpartum, employment, retirement, a relationship, family or a major life transition? Have you had difficulty managing relationships with those around you due to anxiety or depression? Maybe you have struggled with these feelings for a long period of time and you haven't figured out how to address them. Perhaps these unnerving feelings came on suddenly and you are not sure how to cope with the discomfort. I aim to help clients recognize their unhelpful negative thoughts and manage them with in-the-moment techniques. We can work to identify and tackle them together. Practical feedback often helps to normalize behaviors that are long-standing while helping one move away from shame toward acceptance. Having worked in the field of mental health for over 10 years, my expertise lies in confidence, self worth and self esteem skill building, anxiety and stress management and support with life transitions. Treatment may include but is not limited to strengths based therapy, solution focused therapy, executive functioning management, exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. I tailor it to what it is that you need throughout our work together. We make things practical. *I offer in person and virtual therapy. Fees and Insurance: I am licensed to practice and accept clients from the following states: NY, PA, NJ, CT, FL, TX, IL and IN. Though I accept some NY insurance plans only, from time to time, there may be a waitlist if you choose to use insurance. I do not accept out of state insurance but can offer sliding scale if one is experiencing financial hardship. My goal is to make therapy accessible to everyone. If you use out of network benefits, I will provide you with a Superbill for reimbursement but please do check with your insurance company as each plan is different. Please reach out to discuss.

College is an exciting time though it can be an overwhelming one as well. College comes with its own unique set of challenges - increased workload, the need for greater time management, increased independence, and trying to find a good work-life balance, to name a few. College life can bring on new anxiety or exacerbate pre-existing anxiety, and managing this and coping in healthy and effective ways can prove difficult at times. Anxiety and stress can also trigger new or worsen pre-existing Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), like excoriation disorder (skin picking) and trichotillomania (hair pulling). If you are a female student struggling with anxiety and need help managing it, and/or are having a difficult time with BFRBs, I would love to work with you. Together we will work on identifying stressors/triggers as well as strategies and skills you can use to better manage your anxiety and/or your BFRB. I look forward to meeting you!

I have expertise in working with members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, untangling impacts of trauma, and neurodivergent young adults, though many clients of diverse backgrounds and experiences tend to respond well to my authenticity and warmth. Clients seeking my support might be struggling with perfectionism, anxiety, burn out, boundary-setting, self-doubt, and identity. Common goals might include reducing anxiety, applying their awareness of self to healing, and approaching life and relationships with wellness and empowerment. My goal is to act as a partner in navigating the waves of life. I'm super excited to learn more about you! Building on sensory awareness, mindfulness, trauma work, and creativity, we'll dig for the root of your distress. Tools such as thought challenging, processing trauma, reducing nervous system burnout, and empowerment to lean into your long-term goals may be cornerstones of our work together. I cultivate an environment of authenticity, warmth, and creativity. Working with pre-teens to adults, I recognize that we have all experienced adversity to some degree in our lives and each degree is equally valid. While growth is often a layered and open-ended journey, your counseling relationship and an understanding of relational dynamics will be cornerstones for your adventure. Give us a call to discuss how we can help!

Your struggles are unique and complex. As a psychologist my aim is to help you explore your personal narratives, to understand how your past is affecting your present and keeping you from fulfilling your values.
