Therapists for college students near University of Pittsburgh
I’m a psychoanalyst in private practice. Though I work most frequently with graduate students and faculty, I welcome all students with an interest in learning more about themselves. As a psychoanalyst, I believe in addressing the underlying causes of problems and difficulties.
My therapeutic approach is humanistic and combines creative expression with elements of traditional counseling. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, and day-to-day life stressors and transitions, as well as children and adolescents living with chronic pain and illness. My other experience involves individual, group, and familial support in medical, residential, and educational settings. I aim to provide a calm, relaxing, and inviting environment.
My counseling style is grounded in the belief that, as humans, we are all imperfect; but are also inherently "ENOUGH". I believe in an empoweringly collaborative approach to help clients identify patterns and address cycles of distress.
At times, people need a safe and supportive environment to express their thoughts and feelings. Counseling is an opportunity for people to gain awareness, acceptance, insight, and identify tools for relaxation and problem-solving. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

I have primarily worked with clients regarding life transitions/adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, self-harm, LGBTQ exploration, interpersonal conflicts, family dynamics, spiritual/faith/religious concerns or abuse, and boundary setting. I enjoy clients who are seeking to better understand themselves and growing their confidence in who they are. Only after we have insight and awareness can we try to make meaningful changes. I enjoy explorative, open-minded depth work that is holistic and fulfilling for the client. I am trauma-informed and use an eclectic approach with a psychodynamic foundation and incorporate dream work, as needed. Clients that work well with me are open-minded, self-reflective, and curious. I have specialty in working with religious concerns--whether that is as a religious individual or someone with religious trauma/spiritual abuse. I also specialize in working with individuals from dysfunctional family systems or those with emotionally immature parents. Lastly, CPTSD is another area that I am well-versed in.

We believe that psychological well-being and healing come from our ability to foster awareness, understanding and acceptance of our experience of life as a whole - the good, the bad and everything in between. Talking with a therapist can often help facilitate this kind of personal growth. We believe that through developing a trusting relationship, therapist and client can explore aspects of the client’s struggle and the experience of relating to each other in deeper, more honest and productive ways. While each therapist in our practice has a unique approach to the work, we all share a deep appreciation for the importance of meaning making and lived experience in understanding human experience and effective therapy.

On our journey it can be helpful to have someone to help us see the narratives that often define our lives. Some of those narratives keep us from experiencing what we want for ourselves now and in the future. Since graduating with a Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology in 2010, I have been working as a therapist with people in various stages of life. A relationship between a therapist and client can provide someone with a deep reflection of how they live and are experienced. I believe therapy can give us the opportunity to rediscover our story in a new way. Real change is possible and the therapeutic relationship is one of the ways to cultivate that change. Areas of experience and interests: ADHD, adults, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, family of origin concerns, grief and loss, life transitions, mother abandonment, parenting, sexuality, sexual and physical trauma, trauma recovery Fee: I offer a sliding scale fee Insurances Accepted: United Healthcare, UPMC, Cigna, Highmark Therapeutic Style: Relational Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Informed, Family Systems Contact Autumn directly at 412-606-1887 or autumnkrusebrownlee@gmail.com

I work with individuals/families who are experiencing OCD, Social Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety, Perfectionism, Phobias, BFRBs, Body Dysmorphia, Emetophobia, and other OC spectrum and all Anxiety Disorders. My treatment is focused on using Exposure Response and Prevention Therapy for OCD and other anxiety disorders, along with ACT or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I focus on helping folks develop tools for coping and then problem solving, goal setting and encouragement to face fears head on. This leads to freedom from Anxiety and transformation, building inner confidence and strength. If you or someone in your family is feeling constantly anxious, stuck in rumination cycles or sticky thoughts, or if you want to take your life back from the binds of anxiety and OCD this might be the right next step for you. If you want to learn to trust yourself better, rather than constantly doubt, this may be the place for you to start your journey. I'd be honored to walk beside you if you would like support and learning along the way.
My approach to therapy emphasizes mindfulness and the development of inner resources to meet the challenges the world presents at every stage of life.
I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor with experience working with a diverse population in an outpatient setting. I believe that developing a deeper understanding of yourself is the key to facing your mental health struggles and creating a life which is meaningful to you. I work mainly from an existential foundation and enjoy tackling the big questions such as Who am I? and What is my purpose? I also draw from other modalities such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I believe that you are the expert on your own life and will focus on what you want out of our sessions. As a licensed psychologist, I work with adults and adolescents seeking personal growth and change through psychotherapy. Areas of focus within my practice include anxiety, depression, college student mental health, graduate student mental health, career planning and change, partner relationship concerns, grief and loss, life-long and acquired disability issues, and adjustment to life changes such as medical diagnoses, traumatic brain injury, relationship loss, school transition and death of a loved one. I work extensively with undergraduate students with academic and mental health concerns. Academic stress, choice of major, career direction and planning, time management, motivational difficulties, underachievement, disability adaptation needs, and relationship/family issues are common concerns brought to therapy by college-aged students. Having a safe, reliable space to explore concerns and develop solutions can enhance well-being, satisfaction and success. The academic and research responsibilities of graduate programs can be challenging to juggle. In addition, graduates school can often be an isolating time for many students. Motivation, goal clarification, stress management, school-life balance, relationships, financial concerns, and post-graduate career exploration and planning are among the many challenges graduate students face in their academic lives. Work with graduate students is an integral part of my practice.
