Suzie has extensive experience working in mental health using several different unique modalities including sand tray and expressive art. Suzie is passionate about helping children and adults through physical, emotional or sexual abuse. After completing her Masters Degree at Liberty University, she held an internship position at Transitional Counseling Center working with the sex offender population while earning her Provisional Sex Offender Treatment Provider (PSOTP) certification. At the same time Suzie worked at Riverside Hospital conducting groups with schizophrenia clients in a day program unit. She later worked in a private practice setting working with a sex therapist with a focus on the LGBT, transgender and sex addiction population. She has also completed her training as an Approved Clinical Supervisor. Suzie has also completed her training in EMDR, a trauma focused psychotherapy, one of the most studied treatment for PTSD and found this very effective with the VA clients she is currently serving. Suzie has also worked in various roles associated with crisis intervention and volunteered at a domestic violence shelter for women and children. Suzie believes that each individual is unique. Her treatment approach is customized to bring greater self-awareness, psychological healing, and inner satisfaction. Suzie has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in treating psychosis, anxiety disorders, depression, self-esteem issues, mood disorders, and other issues faced in the journey of life. In addition to providing wellness counseling, she works with multiple issues requiring mild to more intensive therapy skills and complicated grief, caregiver, and mood management issues. Therefore, Suzie believes it is important to incorporate a knowledge of one’s thinking process to overcome a negative feeling.
Hi, I'm Brianna (she/hers)! I specialize in working with college students experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, and/or managing life transitions and relationship issues. Typical concerns can include adjusting to college, managing academic or athletic stress (including injuries), health anxiety including complex or chronic illnesses, and relationship stress, as examples. I work with individuals seeking to better understand themselves, develop healthier coping strategies and discover ways to improve their overall well-being, feel less anxious or stressed, and feel better in their day to day life. My approach is warm and collaborative to foster a trusting relationship. Using a blend of relational, attachment-based perspectives and skill building as needed, I help clients explore new ideas, challenge negative patterns or ways of thinking, and build resilience. You can expect me to share feedback, gently challenge ideas, and use humor in sessions. I'm also trained in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), an evidence-based treatment for chronic pain, and provide this therapy as well. If you’re interested in exploring new ways to manage life's challenges, improve your well-being, and feel more resilient please feel free to reach out to set up a free consult call. Present. Calm. Centered. Your authentic YOU. These are the things you may be longing for yet sometimes feel out of reach. Life can bring about storms and seasons of hardship that leave their mark on our human spirits. Sometimes we can find our center, yet other times we may feel lost in the seas of emotions - worries and anxieties that sweep us from our connections to ourselves and those we care about. Maybe you experienced painful moments in your youth or adult life that you just can’t find a way to shake. Or maybe you find yourself caught in certain patterns of responses despite knowing you value interacting with yourself or others differently. Maybe you hope to gain more confidence in yourself to follow your dreams. I am deeply honored to explore these thoughts, feelings, and experiences with you, so that you can draw new connections to live the life you want to lead. I work with adult individuals (18 years and up) and have experience with a variety of different presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and addictions. I offer a nurturing person-centered approach where I believe you are truly the expert in your own life. My aim is to use my professional training to collaborate with you on reaching your goals. I use a variety of counseling approaches including motivational interviewing, mindfulness, CBT and brainspotting. With this, I often interweave somatic/body based awareness, emotional attunement and cognitive aspects into the work we engage in together. I also recognize the decision to choose to start counseling can be a vulnerable and difficult one. I believe a strong therapeutic alliance is the most important aspect for supporting therapy outcomes (research supports this too!). I aim to create an environment with elements of empathy, non-judgment, compassion and humor. And if you wind up finding my therapeutic style is not the best fit for your needs, I am glad to support you in getting connected with another therapist.
Need help navigating the significant life transition to college? Struggling with emotions that feel overwhelming or hard to identify? Or maybe you're noticing the same struggles in various relationships... If any of this sounds like you, reach out today to see if I might be the right therapist to support you. I have years of experience working with college students, so I understand the common difficulties that come with this exciting and challenging stage of life.
I practice with science-supported strategies to help people reduce stress, make health behavior changes (e.g., eat healthier), and adjust to illness or injury. I also work extensively with individuals who experience anxiety, depression, body image concerns, and disordered eating. I am trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and positive psychology interventions. I conduct teletherapy and am licensed for residents in North Carolina and all the states in PSYPACT (https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap) . Teletherapy has been found to be comparably effective to in-person therapy. It also offers greater flexibility, accessibility, and privacy. I'd be happy to work with you!
Do you feel like you are strapped on a roller coaster of anxiety and depression and can't get off the ride? We can feel out of control because of life changes, relationships, and significant events. We can become stuck in our own unhealthy thoughts, emotions, actions, and responses. Sometimes we hyper-focus on relationships and fixing other people. Or we may develop unhealthy patterns when using things outside of ourselves to experience immediate relief and help us cope. This may include alcohol, marijuana, pills, food, porn, exercise, gaming, social media, shopping, and gambling. You need somewhere safe to talk about the hard stuff. Every person has difficulties that feel overwhelming at some point in their lives. Being willing to ask for assistance is a courageous gift to yourself. I find it gratifying to help people struggling with anxiety and depression related to challenges in life and relationships. You are worth your own effort in becoming a healthier version of yourself! I look forward to being a part of the journey!
