Therapists for college students near University of Pennsylvania
I work with teens, adults and couples, helping with navigating difficult life transitions, improving communication skills and emotional regulation, as well as building a healthy sense of self-worth. I utilize a strengths-based and compassionate approach. I believe that the therapeutic relationship itself can be a powerful agent for change, and that creating emotional safety within our relationship is paramount. I provide a safe and judgment-free environment so that you can learn to trust yourself and others in your life. I will work with you to help you gain self-awareness and to develop tools for creating the life you want to live. I specialize in treating relationship issues (including recovery from abuse), trauma, anxiety and depression. Together we will work on helping you to gain insight and to become more mindful of your emotions and responses to stress. I am a lifelong learner and am passionate about the work that I do. I know seeking therapy can be an overwhelming experience, and I would be happy to do a free consultation with you to address any questions or concerns you may have about the process. Hello! I enjoy working with those who struggle with attention/focus (ADHD), anxieties and panic, identity and experiences related to Sports, grief and loss, disordered mood patterns, depression, and significant life transitions/stress. My ideal client demographic is Adults and Teenagers. With my clients, I enjoy working collaboratively to support them in the changes they are pursuing — by helping them identify the triggers to their struggles, help build change towards handling their struggles, and identify a reframe for their thinking patterns around those triggers. I'm a licensed Master's-level Counselor working on my doctorate. In my work with clients, I use a multifaceted therapy approach, including Gestalt Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Client-Centered Counseling, and Adlerian. In my work, I strive to support clients in finding their anchor in their struggles and building the ability to dispute their stuck perspectives and orientations regarding their thought patterns and emotional struggles. I work collaboratively to process your struggles, and I believe I am here to guide you towards your definition of success.
At times, people need a safe and supportive environment to express their thoughts and feelings. Counseling is an opportunity for people to gain awareness, acceptance, insight, and identify tools for relaxation and problem-solving. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
Sometimes life feels overwhelming — stress, anxiety, depression or relationship challenges can leave you feeling stuck and unsure how to move forward. Therapy can help you understand why you feel this way and explore new paths toward change. Often, what seems like the “problem” on the surface is connected to something deeper. Together, we’ll work to uncover and understand these underlying patterns so that meaningful change can happen. I provide a safe, supportive space to explore your experiences and help you create more satisfying relationships and a life that feels aligned with your goals.
I love working with clients who want to better themselves. Whether it be understanding yourself or your identity, conquering anxiety, or working through relationships, I partner with clients to reach their goals and set themselves up for success. Some mental health concerns that I can help with include: ADHD, anxiety, trauma, relationships, life transitions, identity (including LGBT, religion, and others), imposter syndrome, and more. Clients can expect a younger therapist who isn’t afraid to use humor and who isn’t afraid to call out potential stuck points. I am also culturally competent and offer services in both English and Spanish.

College is an exciting time though it can be an overwhelming one as well. College comes with its own unique set of challenges - increased workload, the need for greater time management, increased independence, and trying to find a good work-life balance, to name a few. College life can bring on new anxiety or exacerbate pre-existing anxiety, and managing this and coping in healthy and effective ways can prove difficult at times. Anxiety and stress can also trigger new or worsen pre-existing Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), like excoriation disorder (skin picking) and trichotillomania (hair pulling). If you are a female student struggling with anxiety and need help managing it, and/or are having a difficult time with BFRBs, I would love to work with you. Together we will work on identifying stressors/triggers as well as strategies and skills you can use to better manage your anxiety and/or your BFRB. I look forward to meeting you!

I am seeing all patients by video and phone. You may contact me for a free initial consultation. I see psychotherapy as a psycho-educational experience where you learn about yourself. It is like taking a course in yourself. This counseling process of self-exploration leads to understanding self-defeating thinking and behaviors that may keep you from actualizing potential for successful relationships, success in school, business and career and from having a really happy life. During the 25+ years since I have been a licensed psychologist, I have had the privilege of helping many individuals and couples to achieve a happier, emotionally healthier, and financially successful life. My patients describe me as being a no nonsense person, while at the same time being warm and comfortable. My orientation is Psychodynamic and Cognitive. My thinking is based on psychoanalytic theory, but in practice I react and actively participate in the discussions. I don't just sit silently and nod. Cognitive/behaviorial methods are used as situations require. I have been the family's psychologist for multiple generations, when the participants are comfortable with this mode. Teletherapy - Phone and Video sessions are provided for patients who either cannot come to the office or when they have relocated to a distance too far to travel. During the COVID-19 Pandemic I am conducting all sessions by video and phone.
My primary focus is providing honest communication with patients and quality resources for all those involved.
