Therapists for college students near University of Pittsburgh
Hi, I’m glad you’re here! I specialize in anxiety and trauma - I work with people who are ready to understand the deeper roots of their struggles. You might be looking for insight into your symptoms, past trauma, recurring patterns that no longer serve you. I prioritize creating a compassionate, judgment-free space where you feel truly heard. I am also fully trained in EMDR, which is an evidence-based therapy for trauma and anxiety. I frequently use therapy to help you build skills to manage and I take a strengths-based approach to support healing. I'm here to help you move beyond merely getting by—let’s work together to elevate your self-worth and truly take care of yourself.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist providing diagnostic assessment and evidence based psychotherapy for the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. I have diagnosed and treated a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders in inpatient, emergency, outpatient, and telehealth settings. I also have specialized training in treating adolescents and young adults with co-occurring physical and mental health conditions. I use a collaborative approach to create an individualized treatment plan that capitalizes on existing strengths and aligns with patients' short- and long-term goals for treatment. I obtained my PhD in Clinical Psychology at Case Western Reserve University, followed by a clinical internship at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. My postdoctoral research training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine focuses on promoting well-being during life transitions among individuals and families experiencing chronic stress. I work with many teens/young adults who are adjusting to any number of stressors including school, athletics, family dynamics, relationship problems, anxiety, depression and so much more. I have a person driven approach and focus on the therapeutic relationship and your comfort level in sessions.
My individual practice is made up of college students who are in college or soon to be transitioning into the real world. My model is CBT , but tailor sessions to the needs of each individual. Some students might need hands on direction , while others just a supportive and safe place to share and have someone listen. I feel I provide a comforting and safe environment . I love to focus on mindfulness tools to help with stress and time management.
Psychotherapists in our office offer individual psychotherapy services. Our staff accept major insurances. Some of our staff do not work with insurance and offer out-of-pocket fees on a competitive sliding scale. In addition to being trained and practicing mental health clinicians, our small staff share a background in and passion for the humanities. We believe this influences the way we listen, stay calm and connected in the face of pain, feel familiar and grounding in strange situations, and make room for other things when stuck in a thought or a feeling. First call. Leave a message with your name, phone number, and a few times during the week when you know you can speak privately for up to half an hour with one of our intake coordinators, free of charge. The office for psychotherapy and the humanities is supervised by Dr. Mest, licensed psychologist and teacher.

College and early adulthood can feel like a lot. You’re building your future, navigating relationships, managing expectations — and trying to keep it all together. Stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, breakups, and big life transitions are common, but that doesn’t mean you have to handle them alone. Therapy with me is real, supportive, and judgment-free. I focus on creating a space where you can be yourself, talk honestly about what’s weighing on you, and learn practical tools to feel more grounded and confident. I previously worked with college students and young adults at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in an Intensive Outpatient Program, supporting clients through anxiety, depression, and major life stressors. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just not like yourself, let’s talk. Reaching out can be the first step toward feeling better.
You're tired of putting yourself out there and not finding your "person". You've tried multiple therapists but just can't seem to connect. And without that connection, opening up and really digging in is hard. So you remain stagnant. You want to feel safe and supported, but also want someone to finally be blunt with you about what may be holding you back--and what may actually HELP. You're tired of merely surviving--you want to FINALLY feel like you are living authentically and truly thriving. You want someone to challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone, but also make this shit a little less scary. I use humor and laughter, openness and authenticity, and most importantly, foul language, to create a safe, explorative environment where we can really dig into what has been holding you back--together. I can be direct and to the point, and sometimes a bit crass and unconventional. But I will also be your strongest advocate and biggest cheerleader. What I love most about what I do is being able to walk alongside someone who is finding their own way, and being able to witness just how resilient our spirits can be. Asking for a little help isn't a sign of failure--it's a sign of courage. And a sign of a badass who refuses to get in their own way. Reach out to see if we may be a good fit! Let's do this! Open Space CCW is a LGBTQIA+ and relationship minority affirming group practice whose mission is to help people move from merely surviving their lives, to truly thriving.

After 40+ years of experience working with depression, anxiety, and stress management, I continue to find deep gratification in helping people relieve suffering and transform their lives. If sexuality is part of your problem, I am one of few professionals certified as a sex therapist, supervisor, and fellow by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. I work exclusively with teletherapy, which I find to be as effective as in-person sessions. You can reach me best at robsch77@gmail.com
I enjoy working with individuals who are interested in promoting well-being in themselves and in relation to others. Mindfulness instruction is available as a key component of my therapy should this focus be desired. Studies have shown that a regular practice of mindfulness supports an enriched experience of life, feelings of well being, better ability to cope with stress and pain, reduced panic, anxiety, and fear and better concentration. While my private practice setting is refreshing and tranquil with views of trees and birds, I currently only offer tele-health, accessible from the comfort of your own home or office. A mindfulness practitioner since 1986, I began developing the application of mindfulness for specialty disorders in 1997 for clients (anxiety, panic, Attention Deficit Disorders, concussion, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, and other cognitive and neurological disorders). This work has been highly successful and rewarding. I am a warm and caring professional who spends the time required with each client. I am a certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher and ordained by Teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. I offer neuropsychological assessment of learning and attention disorders for children and adults and day long mindfulness workshops and groups. Neuropsychological and Academic testing does accommodations is currently suspended until further notice due to COVID-19.
I work with students who feel stuck or stretched thin. Common themes include low mood or anxiety, perfectionism and procrastination, imposter feelings, and big transitions. My style is focused and time-limited. We set clear goals, build simple routines, and track progress between sessions. I use mindfulness, behavioral tools, and values work to help you decide what matters and act on it. Sessions are structured and practical: we translate insight into small, repeatable steps for school, relationships, and health. You can expect exercises to try between sessions and a concrete plan for each week. Good fit if you want a collaborative, evidence-informed approach, you are ready to practice skills, and you prefer clear feedback over jargon. Not a fit if you seek open-ended therapy without clear goals.
